Common Questions

As you make a decision about tutoring these are questions and answers that may help you make  a decision. Feel free to contact me if you have other questions.

Q and A's

  • How do I get started with tutoring?

The first step is to call for a consult to see if I can help you. The first 15-minute phone consult is free.

  • How can my child/I meet with you?

Sessions are scheduled either in person if you are within traveling distance or remotely by using Google Meet or Zoom.

  • How long are the sessions?

Most sessions are one hour. Some students prefer 30-minute sessions and others work best for 45-minutes. The length of the sessions is part of the tutorial customization.

  • When and how often are tutorials scheduled?

During the academic year, students meet with me after school, early evenings, and on weekends. During the summer students meet on weekdays. Most students meet 1-3X a week, depending on academic needs.

  • How are parents updated about the tutorials?

Parents receive reports weekly about what was covered and how the tutorials went. Progress is noted and suggestions for home support are provided.

  • Will you work with my child's teachers?

Absolutely. I prefer to work collaboratively with everyone supporting the child and I particularly like to establish helpful relationships with the student's teachers.

  • Will you give us ideas of how we can help our child at home?

Most definitely. Home practice of the right kind helps students make faster, more stable progress. I am a resource for you.

  • Why would I choose your service over that of a larger tutoring company?

Unlike larger tutoring companies that use more scripted materials, I design each child's tutorials to match that child's unique needs and unique situation. I am very experienced at working with anxious, less confident students who may be reticent about tutoring. I know how to read neuropsychological testing reports and the best ways to use this information to help the child. I personalize tutorials as much as possible by tapping into the specialized interests of the child. I go above and beyond to meet the needs of each student I see and make each one feel important and appreciated for being themselves. I work with teachers and other clinicians serving the student to provide the most cohesive assistance possible.

  • What age students do you work with?

I work with students from Grade K- Adult.  I appreciate that this is a wide range, but I have the experience and skills to work with all these age levels including elementary students, teens, college students, and adults.

  • How do I get started with tutoring?

First, call for a consult. If we are a match (I feel I can help you and you like me), then we will schedule a more in-depth consultation where I will gather more information and prepare a preliminary plan for you. At this time we will schedule sessions.

  • What are the fees for individual tutorials?

One-hour tutorials are $95. Consultations are $125 per hour. The first 15-minute consult is free. In-person tutorials may incur a travel fee. The tutorial charge includes my time to prepare lessons, provide weekly reports, and communicate with teachers and clinicians.  Don't let the cost deter you.  Call me so you can understand all your options.
