Writing Tutoring

Students with dyslexia often have dysgraphia, which is difficulty with spelling and getting thoughts on paper. Sometimes students can read quite well but have difficulty organizing their writing and keeping up with written production demands. I provide individualized instruction with writing strategies to target these difficulties and enable a student to build confidence and skills as a writer.

Reading Tutoring

Dyslexia causes young students to have difficulty learning to read or older students to fail to keep up with their reading and adequately understand what they read. Regardless of the cause, a systematic and multisensory approach is recommended for remediation of reading issues. I provide  differentiated and personalized tutorials based on current research and the best of Orton-Gillingham, Wilson and Lindamood Bell.

Test Prep

Individual and group instruction is available to students who want help in preparing for tests such as the SSAT, SAT, and TOEFL. Students learn how to prepare for the tests, how to study for them,  what strategies to utilize when taking the test, how to pace themselves, and how to use reasoning skills. Familiarity with the test minimizes stress and gives students a leg up. Strategies learned can be applied to any test-taking situation and are good for life.

Math Tutoring

Students diagnosed with dyscalculia or those who just find it difficult to learn math because of dyslexia or ADHD and cannot keep up with the class, need individual instruction in developing math and quantitative reasoning skills. Leaving math issues untended often results in undue stress and anxiety for the student, many times leading to a fear of math. I provide one-on-one instruction for math issues from Grade 1 through Algebra I.

Executive Function & ADHD Tutoring + Coaching

Academic success has a lot to do with knowing how to learn, understanding how to make adjustments in study plans and strategies, and keeping track of significant demands and expectations. These executive function demands increase as a student advances through the grades. Knowing how to learn and persevere is key to a student's success and oftentimes is more significant than intellectual talent. I provide individualized tutorials for students who want to engage more successfully with their learning. . . those who want to learn effectively and efficiently. . . those who want to develop confidence and proficiencies, while improving work production. Improved work production often leads to more free time to spend on interests and passions, so is a win-win for the student!

Success Stories

I worked with Mrs. Harrington for 3 years in middle school. I am now going to be a freshman in college. All throughout high school I received academic support but working with Mrs. Harrington was a completely different experience for me. School has always been a struggle for me and I’ve never been the highest achieving student when it comes to grades but working with Mrs. Harrington truly changed my outlook on schoolwork. I have dyslexia so in the classroom we mainly worked one on one with reading and writing. She taught me so much about the way I learn and if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t look at myself like I do now.
